Teaching and Learning Philosophy
In many workshops, I have noticed that presenters are not interested in their audience. Information is presented in a one way communication. Therefore, participants cannot ask or make any comments. Inactivity makes people bored and uninterested, and learning does not occur in those situations.
Confucius said “what I hear- I forget, what I see- I remember, what I do- I understand” (Silberman, 2006, p. 2). Learning occurs when people participate in activities. However, Aristotle mentioned “teaching is the highest art of understanding” (Silberman, 2006, p. 5). Real world application is important, so I encourage people to learn, apply and teach skills to enhance people’s life.
I believe that the more I teach, the more I learn; the more I learn, the better I can teach. Every experience is unique and possesses many opportunities to learn something new. Different opinions and experiences enhance our perspectives, so we must encourage diversity to expand our knowledge.
We live in a fast-paced world and our ability to change and adapt to it is important. Collaboration is more important than ever. The fast production of information inhibits one person from learning everything. Therefore, a team with different specialists and backgrounds is key to success.
